No amount of Open Water Diving Training, or Experience prepares you to be a cave diver!!! Before you consider participating in Cave Diving you have to get the proper training and equipment to do so. 5 basic rules for cave diving safety are: Always save 2/3 of total air (or other gasses used) supply to return to the surface. 1/3 in, 1/3 out, 1/3 emergency reserve. Always use a continuous guide line to the surface. Carry always 3 lights with you when cave diving. Limit your depth to appropriate levels according to the gas you are using. Apart from being well trained for cave diving, make sure you are mentally well prepared for the dive. Read my post about  Cave diving equipment . The Dominican Republic offers more than just ocean diving, here are 3 amazing fresh water caves. Cueva Taina; Cueva Taina is located near the airport Las Americas, Santo Domingo, it is private property and a entrance fee has to be paid to the landowner. No amount of equipment can replace or compensate for the lack of training or knowledge, but without the right equipment your ability to learn will compromised. Here is a list of the equipment needed to participate in cave diving courses (often some of the equipment can be rented from the dive center with whom you take the courses at an additional cost), once certified as a cave diver you really want to own and take care of your equipment. Probably you own already a part of the equipment needed, since you'll need these for regular open water dives as well. Fins; You need flat-bladed fins, with spring heel straps  that ensure least chance on entanglement and facilitate frog kicking and other specialized propulsion techniques. Absolutely no hinged or split fins. Check out  Leisurepro  for known brands you can trust. Mask; Look for a streamlined, low volume model with a wide field of vision. It is common practice for cave divers to carry a back up mask. Cave & Technical divers ofte
